Legislative Update

The 2021 Legislative Session resulted in several bills that were adopted by the legislature that directly relate to the trust and estate practice of law, including HB21-1004: Colorado Uniform Electronic Wills Act; SB 21-162: Colorado Uniform Trust Code Part 5; SB 21-171: Uniform Fiduciary Income and Principal Act; and SB 21-195: Notarization of Certain Probate Documents. Presented by Dylan H. Metzner, Esq., Jones & Keller, P.C. Dylan is a member of the Private Wealth & Estates practice at Jones & Keller, P.C. Dylan’s practice includes estate, tax and business succession planning; representing fiduciaries with respect to trust or estate administration matters; and representing fiduciaries (both professional and individual) or beneficiaries in trust or estate litigation matters. In his planning practice, Dylan counsels high-net-worth individuals, corporate executives, closely held business owners, and families throughout the United States guiding them through the maze of laws and practical considerations, moving each client closer to achieving goals and resolving outstanding issues. He focuses on designing plans that put the individual and families’ values and goals first before carrying out plans that preserve wealth through legal structures and innovative strategies, the efficient transfer of property, and the reduction of risk from tax consequences, family conflict and litigation. He also advises clients on tax-advantaged entity structures including family limited partnerships and limited liability companies, dynasty trusts, trusts structured to hold inherited qualified plans such as IRAs and 401K, split interest trusts, grantor trusts, and life insurance trusts.
